A HISTORY OF WNC'S LEADING CONCRETE SUPPLIER
Over 50 Years of Excellence
Long before Interstate-40 wound through the mountains of Western North Carolina, Reed and Abee, Inc. began their ready-mix concrete business in Asheville. In 1920, they founded the Oakley Construction Company, and added construction to their services shortly thereafter. After almost 40 years serving the region, Carolina, Reed and Abee, Inc was acquired by the current company in 1958, and Asheville Concrete Materials, Inc. was well on its way.
Much like the surrounding area, Asheville Concrete Materials, Inc. grew significantly over the next 25 years, expanding from one to 18 plants. In 1983, the name was changed to Southern Concrete Materials, Inc. to represent the larger geographical area served by the company.
Today, Southern Concrete Materials has over 175 mixer trucks, 25 tractors, 300 employees, and 27 locations. Serving as partners on many notable construction projects throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, we have contributed to the foundations, walls, and walkways of some of the region’s most iconic buildings, all the while keeping constant mindfulness of green building practices and making excellent quality our top priority.
Southern Concrete Materials is a privately held company and proud to be an American and family-owned and operated company.
